Charles Yuji Horioka is a leading economist specializing in household behavior, macroeconomics, and the Japanese economy. He is a Research Professor at Kobe University and concurrently serves as Distinguished Professor at the Asian Growth Research Institute (AGI). Recognized for his outstanding scholarly contributions early in his career, Horioka received the prestigious Japanese Economic Association/Nakahara Prize in 2001, awarded annually to the most distinguished Japanese economist under the age of 45. He currently serves as President of the International Association for Research in Income and Wealth (IARIW) and has previously been President of both the Japanese Economic Association and the Society of Economics of the Household. He is Co-Editor of the Review of Economics of the Household, a former Co-Editor of the International Economic Review, and serves on the editorial boards of numerous leading journals. His speaking and research interests span household economics, savings and consumption behavior, Japan’s macroeconomic challenges, and international finance.
